Fall Nature Play: Exploring Loose Parts & Ramps
Fall brings so many beautiful treasures to explore! Colorful leaves, pinecones, acorns, sticks & other natural materials create endless opportunities for children to investigate, create & play.

Children were free to explore the materials in their own way, rolling loose parts down ramps, sorting & arranging their findings, creating patterns, building, balancing & discovering how each material moved and behaved.
As children grasp, carry, roll, balance & arrange the materials, they strengthen fine motor skills & hand-eye coordination while naturally exploring early math concepts like counting, sorting, size, distance & patterns. Experimenting with ramps also encourages prediction, problem-solving & cause-and-effect as children test which objects roll, slide, move faster or travel farther. Because the materials are open-ended, they leave plenty of room for imagination, creativity & discovery.
One of my favorite things about nature-based play is its simplicity and versatility. A handful of fall treasures can become an invitation to explore, experiment, investigate & create through play!
