Diwali, the Festival of Lights, is a beautiful celebration of light over darkness, hope, joy & new beginnings! Filled with vibrant colors, glowing diyas, intricate Rangoli designs & meaningful traditions, this celebration offers wonderful opportunities to introduce children to different cultures through art, literacy, sensory exploration & PLAY!

Over the years, I've brought the beauty of Diwali into our learning environments through open-ended invitations inspired by its colors, patterns, lights & traditions. From creating Rangoli designs with loose parts to exploring colorful process art, these hands-on experiences encourage children to create, investigate & make meaningful cultural connections through play.

Here are some of my favorite Diwali-inspired invitations to explore, create & celebrate the Festival of Lights!

  1. Invitation to Create Rangoli Designs with Loose Parts

The beauty of exploring cultural celebrations through creative invitations is that children are given opportunities to discover traditions, appreciate differences, and make meaningful connections with the world around them. Through these Diwali-inspired invitations, children naturally explore color, symmetry, patterns, fine motor development, creativity & cultural awareness, all while expressing their own ideas through open-ended play.

Whether creating colorful Rangoli designs, experimenting with materials or discovering the traditions behind the Festival of Lights, I hope these invitations inspire a celebration filled with wonder, creativity, connection & PLAY! Happy Diwali to all who celebrate!
